The city centre of The Hague has an unprecedented amount of shops, boutiques, large chains and department stores. Looking for unusual fashion? Hoogstraat, Molenstraat and Plaats are the centre of haute couture, exclusive shoe shops and bijouteries. Prefer a big chain shop? Then head to Grote Marktstraat, Spui and Passage.
Grote Marktstraat
Grote Marktstraat is one of the main shopping areas in the centre of The Hague. The shopping street runs from the cosy Grote Markt with its many cafés to the Spui where you will find a large Pathé cinema. A large number of department stores are located here in beautiful buildings, such as the Bijenkorf, Peek & Cloppenburg, sports chain Decathlon and of course the new Passage. You can shop on Grote Marktstraat seven days a week, as the department stores and shops here are open every day.
Looking and buying art on the Denneweg
Art shops and galleries with an extensive collection of painting and sculpture from the 19th and 20th centuries, modern art and art deco from around the world are mainly found in the Noordeinde area. More of a lover of antique furniture, clocks and paintings? Then the Denneweg is the right place for a wonderful shopping day.
Hofkwartier
Tucked away in the historic Hofkwartier behind the Grote Kerk is Prinsestraat. This is where hip The Hague hits its stride in trendy fashion and accessory shops, design shops and art galleries. Besides the varied shopping, this street is increasingly emerging as a place to enjoy fine dining. In the restaurants, trendy and authentic melt together in Italian, French, Californian and Asian cuisine.
Courtyards in the Hofstad
The Hague is a historic city with no fewer than 115 hofjes. These traditionally charitable or almshouses are now an oasis of peace in The Hague's busy city centre. Hidden behind a door or gate, it is a good search, but the reward is well worth the search. Total silence. And with a bit of luck, the honour of being shown around by a resident.
The Hague's museums and cultural activities
The Hague breathes culture and art, lots of art. The famous Mauritshuis has an extensive collection of great masters, the showpiece being Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring . The largest painting in the Netherlands can be found in the city centre of The Hague: Panorama Mesdag. And the Escher museum is located in one of the few public buildings where the old palace function can still be experienced.
The city also stands for cabaret, theatre, music, dance and many other cultural activities. From the Residentie Orkest and Nederlands Dans Theater to the National Theatre and many other companies, groups, artists and orchestras. They can be seen and heard in a selection of major and small arts theatres in and around the city centre.

The Hague Info Store is located in The Hague Central Station. You can go there to book tours and for free (tourist) information of all The Hague's museums, theatres, restaurants, festivals and attractions. The shop also has a wide range of local products such as, Haags Bier, Haags Zaad, T-shirts and much more!
Opening hours shops
The shops in the centre of The Hague are open seven days a week . Most shops are open until 18:00 on weekdays, but department stores like Bijenkorf and Primark in Grote Marktstraat have longer opening hours. Every Thursday is a shopping night in the city centre of The Hague and most shops are also open on Sundays. During most public holidays, there are also extra shopping Sundays and evenings, and museums in the city centre of The Hague open their doors.
