Het Nationale Ballet - Junior Company

Bookmark

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Junior Company, this youth group of the Dutch National Ballet presents 'In the Future'.

In this attractive and challenging anniversary program for twelve dancers, we meet the stars of the future in three pieces: a world premiere by Juanjo Arqués, a Junior Company premiere by Hans van Manen, and a classical ballet from 1842 by the Danish choreographer August Bournonville.

The Dutch National Ballet started a crowd funding drive in 2017 to help choreographer Juanjo Arqués, young creative associate, to make a new ballet for the Junior Company. The result, 'Fingers in the Air', danced to a new composition by Scanner, will premiere in this program.

New for the Junior Company is the ballet 'In the Future' by Hans van Manen to music by David Byrne. Van Manen created the choreography for the Scapino Ballet in Rotterdam in 1986. 'In the Future' is a premiere for the Dutch National Ballet, an energetic, swinging, funny, and surprising work, with inventive costumes by Keso Dekker.
Included in the program are the 'Pas de six' and the 'Tarantella' from the classical ballet 'Napoli' by the Danish choreographer August Bournonville from 1842.
