Residentie Bach Ensembles - Magnificat! Crowdfunding anno 1786
The RBK takes you back to Hamburg in 1786, where Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach organised a concert for a hospital for the poor: crowdfunding avant la lettre. For the programme, Carl borrowed from his father Johann’s Hohe Messe (‘Credo’) – preceded by his own ‘Einleitung zum Credo’, composed for the occasion – but also from Händel’s Messiah. After the intermission, the concert continued with works of his own: the first of his 4 orchestral symphonies Wq 183, the Magnificat, and his cantata for orchestra and double chorus Heilig is Gott.
