This exposition I Love Hiphop festival – through the years which can be seen from June 15 util June 28, 2019 in the Atrium, is all about the I Love Hiphop festival. From 2009 until today the organization delivers a wide variety of artists from the hiphop culture. The festival always takes place in The Hague and grew from a one day festival to an event of multiple days.
I Love Hiphop takes care that the different disciplines of the hiphop culture (breaking, graffiti, dj and rap) are well represented by national and international artists.
An important part is the talent from The Hague. I Love Hiphop always makes room in the line up and makes meetings between talents and pros possible on several occasions.
Quality is a very important ingredient and I Love Hiphop has also programmed ahead of its time by keeping their ear to the street and noticing new talents. Examples are Boef, Josylvio, Broederliefde but also popular The Hague artist Mula B found their place in the line up way before their breakthrough.
The birth of I Love Hiphop
The festival started as a fusion between different event of organisations Aight and Musicon. Since the year 2000 Musicon organized “Hague Hiphop” with the focus mostly on rappers and DJ’s. Aight did a yearly graffiti event called “Bomb The Planet” with graffiti writers from The Hague and surroundings.
The breaking (also known as breakdance) event “Jammin On Beat” was one of the first collaborations of the two organizations. It grew from being a part of the “Block Party” (organized by Musicon and programmed by Aight) to a local event in the Bazart to a well respected international competition. It had prelims in different countries but the final was always in The Hague.
In 2009 the idea was born to combine these three events to on big festival in The Hague and so it happened…
In this expo you see images, promotional designs and video’s from the past 10 years of I Love Hiphop festival. A lot of this material never has been in the vault and is to be seen publicly for the first time. The expo consists of 2 walls that are reminiscent of old New York metros with graffiti. The organization has devised this special design to attract attention and arouse interest. The idea has been worked out and built by street / tapist Micha de Bie.
