'Intimate Matter(s)' uses matter as method. In the malleable shapes of Stéphanie Baechler clay and textile themselves determine, to a certain extent, the outcome. The straps and volumes, tension and draping comply to coincidence. Baechler takes up the screen, that stands between reality and the digital, to bring people together and divide them. The private sphere moves continuously to another place and another space. Baechler's work records the recent changes in the material world, and above all, how these are being perceived. Intimate Matter(s) is made possible by the Mondrian Fund.
During the presentation of 'Intimate Matter(s)' the methods behind and the impact of Baechler's work will be explored in a public conversation with contemporary art curator Alexandra Landré (30 November, 5 pm). Besides this writer and performer Emily Kocken will give a recitation that is specially made for this project, on breath and movement, the animation of worn clothes (7 December, 3 pm). Afterwards all the exchanges during and insights of the project will get a place in the new to be published book.
