Museum Beelden aan Zee honours one of the greatest sculptors of modern times in the autumn of 2018 with a retrospective, in which the mysterious artistry of the master is unravelled. Many works come from private collections, and are thus a first for the general public. Ossip Zadkine (1890 - 1967) was a poetic, lyrical and purely artisan artist who was inspired by classical sculpture. He was an expressionist, of which his impressive sculpture The Destroyed City (1953) is the most famous example. Zadkine maintained a close relationship with the Netherlands, educated numerous Dutch sculptors and was a respected guest on the Dutch art scene.
