DNR Filmclub - Black Panther

One of the most exciting cinematic sensations of recent years is the rise of new African-American cinema, and the fresh and critical perspective it has on American culture. November will be dedicated to some of the most significant titles that came out as part of this wave.

Black Panther (Ryan Coogler, 2018)
Lavish, large scale thrills are splashed across the big screen in bold and brilliant fashion, but what makes this one-of-a-kind blockbuster worthy of multiple viewings is the powerful drama at its core.

When T’Challa, the king of Wakanda and the Black Panther of the title, ascends to the throne he is faced with challenges that are spiritual, political and directly physical, creating a Shakespearean drama that becomes increasingly compelling as the action intensifies.

The first (almost) all-black cast superhero film, and the first superhero film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, and the winner of further Oscars for Costume Design, Production Design and Original Score, Black Panther is a masterpiece of its genre and a historical milestone.
