Maura Biava
Maura Biava draws inspiration from nature and mathematics for her photography, drawings and ceramic work. She shows that many forms, such as those of plants, people and animals, contain mathematical cores. Just like Escher, nature and mathematics are also the basis for creating new worlds. In her underwater photography, she portrays herself surrounded by endless water, like a sea creature from another world. For her solo exhibition at Escher in Het Paleis, she is developing new work on hands, inspired by Escher. Biava sees her hands as an important source of energy, which she converts into art together with raw materials and a mathematical formula. The hands not only shape the work of art, but also become the work itself.
