Do the performing arts adequately reflect the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community? - is the central question in the eighth edition of the (Un)heard Music Festival.

(Un)heard Music Festival - Diversity

Because how diverse is the classical music world really? The members of Matangi Quartet explore this in their own festival. Finding answers looks at the past, present and future. The result is an extensive program with moving musical stories in the form of concerts, an opera, film screening, workshop, dialogue and more. Matangi invites fellow musicians and artists including Rick Paul van Mulligen, Sanne Pols, the Natalon Quartet and Pieter van Loenen.

Diversity

“Diversity is a major theme in society. Many people feel neither seen nor heard. During the (Un)heard Music Festival 2024, the question is asked about what is going on in classical music; how diverse is classical music on and behind the stage? What was that like in the past and especially; how do we see the future?”, says Maria-Paula Majoor, first violinist of Matangi. “I am really looking forward to performing the opera 'For a Look or a Touch'; it is a raw look at the past of the queer community in 1933 when Hitler came to power in Germany and then the persecution of these people in all occupied territories. A forgotten history. But it also draws a line to the present. What impact does this history have on the present day?
