An English Christmas at the Lutheran Church with the Kampen Boys Choir
It is now a tradition: an English Christmas celebration in the Lutheran Church with the Kampen Boys Choir singing a Festival of Lessons and Carols, modelled on the world-famous performance by the Kings College Choir in Cambridge.
A single boy soprano opens a cappella with the Once in Royal David's City'. Then the choir sets in and you can listen to over an hour of the finest English Christmas music, framed by nine readings from the Christmas Gospel. Several times, attendees are invited to sing along with well-known English Carols.
In line with English boys' choirs in cathedrals and colleges, the entire choir will be divided into two sub-choirs: the cantoris and the decani. These designations refer to the place of the two subchoirs in the high choir of an English cathedral
The English choral tradition resonates even further: the Kampen Boys Choir has male altos, the countertenors, which, together with the clear and thin sound of the boy sopranos, the trebles, make the overall sound so typically English.
This music lends itself ideally to the beautiful acoustics of the Lutheran Church and the sounds of the famous Bätz organ:
- Conductor and artistic direction Kampen Boys Choir: Rintje te Wies.
- Organist: Sander van den Houten.
