Emo Verkerk
Painter, draughtsman and sculptor Emo Verkerk (b. 1955) is among the most influential Dutch artists of recent decades. He gained fame with his expressive portraits of writers, philosophers, musicians and artists he admires. These portraits are not exact representations, but uniquely capture the essence and atmosphere of their subject.
Since 2000, Verkerk has also been making sculptures, or as he calls them himself: objects. Made from everyday materials and rich in layering and associations, these works challenge the boundaries of traditional sculpture. Nothing is definitive; each work remains a search for new forms and possibilities.
For this special exhibition, Verkerk selected works from his studio that have not been shown before. A unique opportunity to discover the versatility of this idiosyncratic artist. Be inspired by his creative world full of unexpected combinations and new perspectives.
