About Leiden University, Campus The Hague
Leiden University’s Campus The Hague is rooted in society and focuses on urgent themes such as peace, justice, public administration and major urban challenges including sustainability and health. All of this is done with and for the city’s residents.
Leiden University opened a small location in The Hague 25 years ago. Since then, it has grown into a vibrant city campus with four locations in the heart of The Hague, now home to 7,000 students and over 500 staff members. A new location will open soon: the former V&D department store (later Hudson’s Bay) on Spui has been transformed into a fully-fledged university building. In January 2026, the doors will open to the new Spui Campus, where Leiden University will be joined by TU Delft, the Open University, the LUMC and the Universities of the Netherlands. It will be a place for teaching, research, knowledge sharing and connection.
