Arjan van Gent & Patricia Steur - Legends in lines and lenses
The exhibition ‘Legends in Lines and Lenses’ brings together the work of Patricia Steur and Arjan van Gent in Pulchri Studio .
Patricia Steur
Patricia has worked as a successful independent photographer since 1980 with an international career that began in the turbulent 1980s photographing live rock and roll and pop concerts where she was one of the few female photographers in a predominantly male world. She worked for magazines and photographed stars such as Blondie, Andy Warhol and Sting, and made many records and CD covers. Many famous artists and bands such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Cure, U2's Bono and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have appeared in front of her camera.
Besides making documentaries and film, Patricia has published 10 books and an 11th on her entire body of work is in the works. She has been awarded major prizes and had over 30 solo and group exhibitions in Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles and Istanbul, among others. In 2019, she was knighted by the Dutch King in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Her interest is broader than rock ‘n’ roll and celebrities. She has a deep interest in capturing the disappearing traditions of ancient cultures, such as the tribal tattoos of the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maoris and of Samoa, Indonesia and even headhunters in the Philippines. She is happy to see a renaissance of these ancient cultures. Every year there is an exhibition of her work.
