Fashion Galore: 75 years of fashion collection
4 Jul 2026 - 3 Jan 2027
Exhibition
From 4 July 2026 to 3 January 2027, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag will present Fashion Galore, or in other words: an abundance of fashion. What began as the Dutch Costume Museum has grown into the largest fashion and costume collection in the Netherlands, with more than 50,000 costumes and accessories. From 17th-century showpieces to the latest pieces fresh from the catwalk, the collection is constantly evolving and offers inspiration, knowledge and expertise.
Fashion belongs to everyone. And fashion can tell many stories. But the perspective on museum pieces and what they tell us can change. Also interesting: what used to be considered broken or 'worthless' when it entered the collection can now be a masterpiece thanks to new stories, perspectives or thorough restoration. This exhibition puts the fashion collection in the spotlight, but also takes a fresh look at the highlights and the work behind the scenes. Who wouldn't want to take a look at the open depot in the exhibition hall or, like a dress detective, see a restoration up close?
Fashion Galore looks back and ahead. Co-creations and never-before-seen objects, as well as new additions to the collection, provide surprises. A feast for the eyes, and above all a celebration of fashion and extraordinary stories, with pieces by designers such as Coco Chanel, Fong-Leng, Alexander McQueen, Jan Taminiau, Vivienne Westwood, Hanifa, Kenneth Ize, and many others.
Three designs by Fong-Leng: Velazquez (1975), Caterpillar (1975) and Phoenix (1974), Kunstmuseum The Hague
