Celebrate democracy!

Prinsjesfestival takes place annually in The Hague, in the week leading up to and on Prinsjesdag. The festival focuses on the celebration of democracy. A society in which everyone counts and matters.

The programme combines in-depth content with festive activities. This creates an event accessible to everyone: from those interested in politics to visitors who come to The Hague mainly for the fun. From students to families. And of course the political leaders will not be missing. Curious about more? Check out the programme!

Democracy belongs to all of us. Join the conversation. Share your thoughts. Get involved.

The Prinsjesfestival 2026 will focus on democracy. Democracy and the rule of law can no longer be taken for granted. In many parts of the world, but also closer to home, freedom, equal rights and fair justice are under pressure. At the Prinsjesfestival, we celebrate democracy and ask questions that matter. What does it mean to you? And where can you make a difference, big or small?

Democracy is not the preserve of politicians or judges. It belongs to all of us. That means: talk to one another, vote and follow local politics, get involved in your neighbourhood, and be critical of what you read and hear. Democracy only thrives if we participate, with empathy, courage and a sense of agency. Not just in politics, but at work, at school, on the street and online.
