Specific Objects presents prints and a visual object by Donald Judd (1928-1994) from the 1980s and 1990s together with work by three Dutch makers: Maria van Kesteren (1933-2020), Pieter Geraedts (*1940) and Geert Lap (1951-2017).

Minimalist aesthetics

Van Kesteren (in wood), Geraedts and Lap (ceramics) go beyond the boundaries of applied art. All three artists are in search of the perfect form, abandoning all restrictions of functionality.  The reduction to monochromy and simple geometric forms like spheres, ovals, cubes, cones or pyramids creates series of related objects characterised by minimal variations. The austere and elegant spatial effect resembles not coincidentally the minimalist prints by Donald Judd, a prominent representative of Minimal Art. Van Kesteren, Geraedts and Lap know how to translate the ideals of Minimal Art into the media of applied art.

To this day, the minimalist aesthetic works its way into contemporary design styles and everyday utensils.
