Stadsboerderij de Gagelhoeve is a cosy petting zoo in the Segbroek district of The Hague where young and old can enjoy the outdoors and experience animals up close.
A fun and educational place in The Hague
Stadsboerderij de Gagelhoeve is located in the Segbroek district, opposite cemetery Nieuw Eik en Duinen. It was built in 1977 and has since added a nature playground, vegetable garden and herb garden. Of course, it wouldn't be a farm without animals, and the Gagelhoeve has plenty of them. Sheep, goats, different kinds of chickens, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, cows and a mini pig can call this city farm their home. There are two animal pastures, one of which is open to visitors almost all year round.
What is there to do?
- Cuddle corner - Children can pet and cuddle small animals under the supervision of a parent or carer. The cuddle corner is open every day from 10 am to 4 pm.
- Guinea pig cuddle hour - Every day between 2.30pm and 3.30pm, children can have fun cuddling guinea pigs.
- Goat brushing - Help look after the goats by giving them a nice brush!
- Help on the farm - Feel like rolling up your sleeves? Sign up with one of the managers. There are special small wheelbarrows and brooms for children.
- Feeding the animals - From 15:30, visitors can help feed the animals.
- Activities - The farm regularly organises fun events such as willow pollarding, a sheep shearing party and crafts with natural materials.
Accessibility
The Gagelhoeve is easy to reach by public transport. Bus 21 stops three minutes' walk from the city farm. Unfortunately, this bus does not stop in the centre of The Hague or at Central Station. If you come from this side, trams 2 and 3 are an option. The farm is right between the two stops: about a seven-minute walk. For cars, free parking applies in the streets around the Gagelhoeve until 18:00.
