Brasserie Meys

The Frederik Hendriklaan is an authentic part of The Hague with an international character. 'De Fred', as the attractive shopping street is popularly known, is located in the middle of the so-called International Zone of the Statenkwartier, near Scheveningen Harbour. On the Frederik Hendriklaan in The Hague you can experience what it is like to shop, live and work in an international city.

Here you can spend a pleasant day shopping in an authentic part of The Hague with an international character. After all, 100 years later, the Frederik Hendriklaan full of beautiful monumental buildings is still bustling with life. Enjoy one of the terraces of this lively shopping street where residents of The Hague, who can be found here from generation to generation, and the international community meet.

'De Fred' and its side streets offer more than one kilometer of shopping pleasure with a very varied range: from well-known concept stores to 'local heroes', from exclusive boutiques to craft specialty stores, from established businesses since 1909 to trendy newcomers. Service orientation is still of paramount importance on the Frederik Hendriklaan, but at the same time there is a response to (international) food trends and smart shopping concepts. The convenient location between city and beach and close to attractions such as the Gemeentemuseum, Omniversum, the World Forum Theater and Madurodam, makes Frederik Hendriklaan an absolute 'must shop' destination in The Hague.

The Frederik Hendriklaan - almost one kilometer long - is one of the most beautiful shopping streets in the Netherlands. The 'Fred', as the avenue is popularly called, has an enormous diversity of shops. The range in the more than one hundred shops varies from clothing to living and from sleeping to eating.

Visit the Haagsch Snoephuis Zoet en Lief for delicious old-fashioned scoop candy or luxurious bonbons, the recently opened Japanese deli Hachi where you can eat and buy the most beautiful sushi and authentic dishes prepared by three Japanese ladies or look out at Paagman , the largest bookstore in The Hague. See also www.defred.nl for even more great shopping tips.

Between the middle of 2019 and 2020, the shopping area will be given a better layout and an attractive appearance that suits this part of the Statenkwartier. The design for the interior was made together with the municipality, property owners and local residents. To improve road safety for the entire shopping area, the traffic speed will be reduced to 30 kilometers per hour.

The area will be more pleasant for pedestrians and there will be less traffic. Wide free walking routes (the so-called 'walker') will be placed on the sidewalks for shoppers.

The street will remain accessible during the work.
