This courtyard was founded in 1616 by the wealthy and the church and provided accommodation for poor women and widows. The rich hoped to gain a place in heaven by doing charitable deeds. A Juttepeer pear tree, which was planted in 1638, stands in the courtyard. It is probably the oldest pear tree in the Netherlands and still bears fruit every year. The Heilige Geest courtyard can only be visited during walking tours organised by the Buitenmuseum.
