Foetus omhuld door plastic en microplastics (c) Prime Video

The groundbreaking documentary Plastic People examines our addiction to plastic and the growing threat of microplastics to human health.

Fight against microplastics

Virtually every piece of plastic ever made breaks down into so-called microplastics. These invisible particles float in the air, drift in rivers, oceans and lakes, and mix with the soil. This makes them a permanent part of our living environment.

Microplastics in our bodies

What once seemed to be an environmental problem now also appears to be a threat to our health. Leading scientists have found microplastics in our organs, our blood, brain tissue and even in the placentas of new mothers. But what does this mean for our well-being? What risks do we run? And above all: can we still do anything about it?

A personal quest

Award-winning author and science journalist Ziya Tong takes the viewer on a personal journey. She visits leading scientists around the world and undergoes experiments with her own body, diet and living environment. Together with acclaimed director Ben Addelman, she makes Plastic People an urgent appeal to us all: reconsider your relationship with plastic before it's too late.
