Anne-Lize Reuter - Vergleden
Anne-Lize's work has a romantic-realist feel. All her canvases exude a relaxed atmosphere of gradually and silently vanished times. Hence the title for this exhibition ‘Past’. She draws inspiration from the times of her father's childhood, who was born in 1898. She still has some photos from his childhood. Ladies with hats, parasols and pretty dresses, parading along the beach or just sitting on a bench in the garden or in a tavern.
She is a member of Pulchri Studio because she feels at home here and finds the entourage of the building and the history of the society so fitting for her work. The work of ´Vergleden´ depicts life in and around 1900. The time when the Mesdag family was leading at Pulchri Studio and the society also, thanks to them, came into possession of our beautiful building. Life around 1900 was characterised by radical changes and progress on several fronts, influenced by the Industrial Revolution and social, political and cultural developments. Anne-Lize's paintings do not depict these hectic changes, but rather the relaxed moments of rest and entertainment of yesteryear.
From 9 October to 4 December, Anne-Lize will exhibit in the Gaanderij. A corridor built, how could it be otherwise, in 1900. A beautiful backdrop of white marble floor tiles and panelling, where people love to walk by if they want to look at art or relax in the society or courtyard garden.
Anne-Lize always has fun when she paints. Sometimes a painting succeeds immediately, and according to her, most of the time it doesn't. But at least she has fun.
