Dominique Ampe - In the memory of the house
He has been drawing autonomously since the age of seven. Using the landscape as inspiration, he tries to start from a painting tradition, only to break it down to his own experiences, subtle observations and findings. He then also converts visual thinking into pictorial versions, placed in a new context, endlessly pursuing such experiments without losing their meaning.
Outside, things happen instinctively, which is why painting outside has the breath of nature in it. Instinctively, he tries to let the excitement of the landscape come to him, with its specific characteristics. To understand the essence of the landscape and its lyrical beauty, whimsy and melodrama, full of nature, passion, pathos and greatness. The study sketch is the oxygen device, with which he paints as an (indoor) studio and serves himself the outdoors, with his studio providing an important guarantee of inspiration.
The desire for a place to retreat is a pressing question. This place to think, listen, weigh and make choices undisturbed is a form of autonomous self-determination. A secluded quiet quiet place is a prerequisite for meeting a focused objective, a notion of seclusion, concentration, creativity and working condition. They are linked to the physical and mental space and freedom to work. The real authenticity of the poetic landscape provides inspiration and motivation for new impulses, creative competences and creative ability.
He tries to listen to the sound, tone and silence of the landscape. His aim is to evoke the essence of outdoor painting in images, through an intensification of reality.
