killing you softly.jpg

Killing You Softly is a fearless commentary on the accelerating shift towards a future in which artificial intelligence permeates our daily lives. What does this mean for human intimacy and connection? Will AI reshape the way we interact with each other, or replace us altogether? After the performance, you are invited to a communal henna ritual, as a counterbalance to these developments and to explore a digital-free way of being together. The performance is in English.

Over de performance

The performance is a combination of physical theatre and dance that will completely immerse you. Step into a world where the seductive grip of artificial intelligence paints a disturbing picture of the future, inspired by James Lovelock's book Novacene – The Coming Age of Hyperintelligence. A dystopia in which humans risk becoming nothing more than 'houseplants' against the backdrop of AI dominance.

Henna ritual afterwards

After the performance, Avantika invites the audience to participate in a communal ritual: the ancient tradition of henna painting. With this ritual, she aims to convey the sense of community she cherishes from her upbringing in India and to respond to the theme of the performance. A call for camaraderie and collective action, as a counterbalance to the isolation of Western society and increasing digitalisation. Henna, with its intricate patterns on the palms of the hands, serves as a symbol of mutual connectedness and creates an environment where laughter and conversation can flow freely. Against the backdrop of increasing automation and the disappearance of manual labour and touch, this intimate exchange becomes a place for shared reflection and theatre as a shared experience. A digital-free place for new forms of closeness.
