Florian Verweij & Mariona Camats – The Classical Hour
As part of the classical music programme *Het Klassieke Uurtje*, pianist Florian Verweij and cellist Mariona Camats will be performing an intimate chamber music concert at the Stadstheater Zoetermeer. Two young, internationally acclaimed musicians with a shared passion for refined timbres and poetic interpretation.
Florian Verweij (1997) has quickly built up an impressive reputation as a soloist and chamber musician. His debut album, *Sonorités de Paris* (Gutman Records, 2024), showcases forgotten piano works by Franck, Fauré, Boulanger and Roger-Ducasse. *International Piano* praised him as ‘a pianist of real character and imagination’, whilst *Trouw* described the album as ‘a magnificent tribute to the piano music of Roger-Ducasse’. He has performed with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Royal Netherlands Navy Band, and made his debut in 2023 to a sold-out audience in the Kleine Zaal at the Concertgebouw.
Mariona Camats: a cello with a rich heritage
The Catalan cellist Mariona Camats grew up in the tradition of Pau Casals. She studied with Anna Mora and Lluís Claret, Casals’s own godson, and was awarded the Pau Casals International Scholarship in 2016. That historical connection is evident in her playing: a warm tone, great musical maturity and an approach that goes beyond the notes alone.
Chamber music at its best at the Stadstheater Zoetermeer
Verweij and Camats have been performing as a duo for some time now, and it shows. Their collaboration feels effortless, as if the music finds its own space. ‘The Classical Hour’ is simple in concept, but the result is anything but: an hour of classical music without an interval, intimate and immediate. The Stadstheater Zoetermeer provides the perfect setting for it.
