The Stutter of a Fallen Tree is an exhibition featuring artists from Hong Kong, exploring dissolving roots, grief and the loss of familiarity.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? And if that tree stutters from the pain, does it matter?

The Stutter of a Fallen Tree is curated by Jeffrey Choy and brings together a group of artists from Hong Kong. Through the lens of Hong Kong’s geopolitical history, they explore dissolving roots, grief and the disorientation that follows the collapse of familiarity.

What does the ‘stutter’ mean?

The ‘stutter’ in the title refers to the difficulty of putting personal experiences into words. Some journeys and experiences are so personal that they can be difficult to communicate directly to others.

Different art forms

The Stutter of a Fallen Tree is presented at NGO DEI Den Haag. The exhibition brings together different disciplines, including visual arts, installations, written and spoken text, sound art and movement arts by artists from Hong Kong.
