Black-and-white scene from A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night: a woman in a chador on a deserted street

As part of the October special Florror, film theatre Flora in The Hague is screening the Iranian vampire film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) with English subtitles.

On the dark streets of Bad City, a slender figure moves through the night wrapped in a chador. The Girl has an unthreatening face, and the unsuspecting residents of the town invite her into their homes. For some, that turns out to be a fatal mistake: a vampire can only enter a house if she has been invited. Quietly and methodically, she stalks the men who deserve it.

Unexpected romance in an Iranian ghost town

When The Girl meets Arash, something shifts. He is different from the rest, and she begins to entertain the idea that their relationship could be something more than predator and prey. After all, even the dead get lonely. Director Ana Lily Amirpour made this black-and-white film in 2014, blending Iranian folklore with a western feel and a distinctive streak of horror romance. It has since become a modern cult classic.
