Various wooden sculptures against a wall.

With Birthland, Museum Beelden aan Zee presents a solo exhibition by the artist Femmy Otten. The exhibition forms part of the Per Abramsen Sculpture Prize 2026, which is awarded every two years to a contemporary Dutch sculptor with an innovative and distinctive three-dimensional practice.

Wooden sculptures by Femmy Otten are on display in the Birthland exhibition at Museum Beelden aan Zee.

Femmy Otten creates drawings, sculptures, paintings, murals and performances. In her work, she explores themes such as love, sexuality, pregnancy, motherhood and vulnerability. Her works are personal, yet also touch on universal human experiences.

The exhibition has been curated by the artist herself and brings together a selection of sculptures and drawings. New work is also on display. Otten deliberately works with materials such as wood and marble and employs traditional techniques. The form of her sculptures emerges intuitively during the creative process.

With Birthland, Otten responds to the limited representation of women’s issues within art history and sculpture. In her work, pregnancy, childbirth and care are given a prominent place in the public sphere.

The expert jury describes her work as highly expressive and praises her authentic visual language. According to the jury, her work fits in well with the collection of Museum Beelden aan Zee, which focuses on the human figure.

The Per Abramsen Sculpture Prize comprises an exhibition, a cash prize of €10,000 and Per Abramsen’s Chateau en Espagne sculpture.
