Open Monumentendag (Heritage Days) is an annual event in the second weekend of September, when thousands of monuments in the Netherlands are open to the public free of charge.

On 9 and 10 September it's that time again: Open Monumentendag. This year's theme is 'Living Heritage'.

Open Monumentendag (Heritage Days) is one of the biggest cultural events in the country. It is the chance to visit buildings you would normally not get into so easily. Whether it is that secret courtyard, a special government building or that monumental building on Lange Voorhout, on Open Monumentendag you can see history come to life. The participating monuments can always be recognised by the Open Monumentendag flag.

N.B. some monuments cannot be visited on both days, compile your programme in advance.

Open Monumentendag in The Hague

The Hague has around 2250 protected monuments and 20 protected cityscapes. This places The Hague among the top 5 monument cities in the Netherlands. In The Hague, Scheveningen and Kijkduin, dozens of monumental buildings are open to the public free of charge during Open Monumentendag. Besides the particularly usually inaccessible monuments, many other buildings can be visited. There are also many fun extra activities such as guided tours, boat trips, workshops and cycling routes to do.
