The Hague, known worldwide as the 'International City of Peace and Law,' breathes history in every street. From the Peace Palace to the International Criminal Court, from the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals to the National Monument Oranjehotel, the streets of The Hague breathe history! But what happens day in, day out behind those grand doors? And how do people working in The Hague contribute to a better, fairer world? Come along to the Just Peace Open Day 2026 to find out!

For one day, The Hague transforms into one big open day with guided (and independent) tours, bike rides, presentations, talks and exhibitions, all free to view. (Registration for organisations will follow shortly).

- Kosovo Specialist Chambers
Visit the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and, during a guided tour, find out more about the mandate, history and work of this international criminal court. You will learn about its jurisdiction, ongoing cases and the way in which the court informs and engages the public.
- Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
Learn all about the fight against chemical weapons and how inspectors operate worldwide. Through demonstrations, presentations and a photo opportunity by the 193 flags, you’ll experience this organisation up close.
- Peace Palace
Discover the iconic Peace Palace, home to the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. During a guided tour, you’ll learn all about international justice and the remarkable history of this monument.
- Rijksmuseum de Gevangenpoort
Step back in time and discover how prisoners were tried and punished centuries ago. The guided tour offers a fascinating insight into the history of criminal law.
- Asser Institute
Discover how legal cases can contribute to social change, for example in relation to gender equality and arms exports. During a panel discussion, legal experts and NGOs will explain why they took their cases to court, what was involved and what impact the cases had.
