An adventure at the Beelden aan Zee museum
Museum Beelden aan Zee is organising a fun-filled day of activities for families on Saturday 18 April. Between 10.00 and 12.00, you can join in on quick tours of some of the museum’s most remarkable sculptures. In the morning, you can also get creative with a museum guide in the Open Atelier. Here, you can also enjoy colouring and crafting all day long. Admission is free for children aged 12 and under. They will receive a treasure hunt booklet full of fun tasks, puzzles and questions to help them discover the museum through play.
We’re also celebrating the return of all the Fairy Tale Statues from the Beelden aan Zee museum to the promenade! With a free audio tour , you can discover the sculptures inspired by famous fairy tales and folk tales. Perhaps you’ll recognise Gulliver, Pinocchio, Hansel and Gretel or the Tin Soldier. In fairy tales, wonderful things often happen: sometimes a little exciting, sometimes funny or hopeful. Little heroes defeat great enemies and even seemingly impossible problems are solved. In this 1.5-hour session, you’ll get a good idea of just how cool the Surf Camps are. Sign up quickly via this link to take part on 19 April. There’s space for 16 children per session. The surf lesson runs from 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm and from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm for children aged 6 and over who hold a swimming certificate A. If there are still places available on 19 April, you can also sign up on the day and see if you can join in at the last minute. Don’t forget your swimwear!
If there really aren’t any waves, Hart Beach Quiksilver Surf School will be offering skateboarding lessons on the promenade. That’s pretty cool too!
What should you fill in on the registration form? Name, age, gender, clothing size, and qualifications. If you’re unable to take part after all, please cancel your registration so that another child can join. A maximum of 16 children can take part in each session.
What do you need to bring with you?
- Swimwear (to wear under a wetsuit).
- Sunburn (you burn very quickly in the water).
- Large towel for changing.
- Dry underwear and a warm jumper, as it can be cold when you get out of the water.
ABZee ‘Sea and Beach Challenge’
Although children have their swimming certificates, they often lack knowledge of the specific risks associated with the sea, such as rip currents and changing wind conditions. At ABZee, you learn about the sea and the beach in a fun and active way. Normally, you would go into the sea, but now a challenging, active and educational programme is offered on dry land.
Fun learning and physical activity for 7 to 14-year-olds.
During the ‘Sea and Beach Challenge’ at Kidsfest, children are challenged with a quiz: what do you actually know about the sea? In various games, participants get to physically experience what they have just learnt. For example, you practise lifeguard signals, play the ‘rip current game’ to recognise currents, and become a ‘living wind rose’ to get a handle on wind directions.
On Sunday 19 April, there will be two 1.5-hour sessions open to children. Each session can accommodate up to 12 children, ensuring that the certified instructors can give everyone plenty of personal attention.
- Date: Sunday 19 April 2026
- Location: Boulevard Scheveningen (opposite the Kurhaus)
- Who is it for? Children aged 7 to 14
