Lions in the Binnenhof? Yes indeed! From 1344 to 1358, several lions resided at the Binnenhof. They were probably a gift from the Duchy of Gelre to Count Willem IV. A real lion house was built for the lions. Bones of a young Berber lion were found during archaeological excavations. You can now view them in the monumental basement of the Information centre Binnenhof Renovation!

‘Discover the story at the Information centre Binnenhof Renovation.'

Lions, lionesses, counts, countesses

For centuries, the Binnenhof was the domain of counts, countesses, princes and stadholders. And therefore also of lions and lionesses. The Information centre Binnenhof Renovation brings this rich history back to life. Archaeological finds and unique objects make 800 years of history tangible.

You can also see how the Binnenhof with its 4,000 unique rooms, halls, attics and cellars will be renovated in the coming years. And the designs of the new moat and public entrance to the Lower House give you a unique idea of what the Binnenhof will look like after the renovation.
