Omslag
28 Jun - 27 Sep
‘Omslag’ is an exhibition about change, imagination and the future of the physical book. The opening will also feature a book fair with independent publishers, designers and bookmakers.
What is Omslag?
‘Omslag’ is an exhibition at the Rijksmuseum Huis van het Boek in which sixteen Dutch bookmakers present their work. The exhibition explores how the book is used as a vehicle for knowledge, a work of art and a design object.
For Omslag, the museum issued an open call for publications on change. The selected works depict the future, explore transformation or offer a fresh perspective on the past. The topics range from identity to the relationship between people and the landscape.
The exhibition is on display in the historic Book Hall, one of the best-preserved 19th-century museum displays in the Netherlands.
What can you expect?
Visitors can view notable publications by, among others, Sara Alfa, Peter Bos, Leonie Brandner, Renée Bus, Carmen José, Gabrielle Lubliner, Mirelle van Tulder, Robin Waart and Jun Zhang.
There is also a film by Hannah Schleifer and Baroeg Mulder.
Three notable works in the exhibition are:
- The timeless play and dance amongst the green, the root and the soil by Renée Bus, an unbound publication with interchangeable pages.
- I Don’t Know How to Draw a Tree by Carmen José, an artistic exploration of our view of nature.
- Seek You – Premises of Moonhorn Promiseby Leonie Brandner, a publication exploring the mysterious and unknown function of a three-thousand-year-old object.
