Screentime - Michiel van der Zwan

Opposite the entrance to the clubhouse, film and video works by Pulchri Studio filmmakers and videographers are on display, breaking down the barriers between film, video and visual art. To provide a platform for Pulchri Studio's existing filmmakers and videographers, they can submit their work to Screentime.

This initiative is a monthly changing collection of videos by one artist, which are displayed on the screen in our corridor. Screentime thus offers a dynamic presentation of developments and creative expressions within film and video art. The monthly change of video artworks keeps the collection fresh and up to date, and gives the public something new to see every month.

Screentime

The works selected for Screentime display a wide range of styles and techniques. These vary from abstract visual poetry to documentary-like narratives, and from fictional narratives to soundscapes with accompanying videos. The exhibition is therefore not only a reflection of the diversity within Dutch film and video art, but also a platform for discussion and inspiration. The public is invited to be surprised, to reflect on the works on display and to participate in the ongoing dialogue between film, video and visual art.

Shadows of the Mind

Shadows of the Mind is an art project deeply rooted in post-conceptual ideas. It encompasses multiple media, including sound art, visual abstractions and experimental expression, and aims to depict the complex and chaotic nature of thoughts and universal thought patterns. The project uses dynamic patterns, fluid forms, and contrasts between light and shadow to create a layered, abstract visualisation of the human mind. Although conceptually rich, Shadows of the Mind remains relatively niche due to limited awareness, its focus on highly abstract themes, and a lack of broad institutional support.

The aesthetics align with post-conceptual principles and challenge the viewer to engage deeply with the abstract representation of thought and self-perception. Despite these limitations, the project offers a stimulating experience that, with greater visibility and participation in the international art discourse, could gain wider recognition.
