Wandkleed dat het koloniale slavernijverleden van Zuid-Holland verbeeldt. geïnspireerd op glas-in-loodramen in kerken

From 23 to 27 June, Nest opens its doors for a special collective art project: Threads of Our Slavery Past. Over the course of five days, participants will help create a monumental wall tapestry that explores and visualises the colonial slavery history of South Holland.

The design, by artist Marcos Kueh, draws inspiration from stained glass windows – a nod to Christianity’s deep entanglement with slavery and Western colonialism. The outer edges of the tapestry show the historical legacy of slavery, while the centre moves toward hope, imagination, and transformation.

Everyone is welcome – with or without experience – to contribute through embroidery, quilting, or felting. The process offers space for reflection, dialogue, and community. The tapestry being created at Nest is part of a larger, travelling project with unique tapestries made in each Dutch province, collectively forming a 35-metre-long national monument.
