Petting zoo Het Akkertje is a nice place in the forest, yet close to the city. There is always something for children to do: cuddle rabbits and guinea pigs or stroke the goats and sheep in the meadow.
Animals and care in green
Het Akkertje petting zoo is surrounded by greenery, just over the border near Rijswijk. The farm is home to many large and small animals. When visiting Het Akkertje, you can come face to face with cows, deer, sheep, goats, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs. Young lambs and goats are expected around the beginning of May every year. Apart from admiring and petting the animals, there are plenty of other games on the premises for the kids. For example, kids can hop on one of the four hopscotch tracks, play a life-size game of chess or Ludo, or help out on the farm with the small wheelbarrows or tractors. What is also special about Het Akkertje is that many of the people working on the farm have mental disabilities. They do their work enthusiastically and are supervised by the Middin organisation. This work gives them the opportunity to develop in a way that suits them.
Directions
Petting Farm het Akkertje is a bit more difficult to reach by public transport. Tram 17 stops conveniently close by, just a few minutes' walk away. Tram 1 and 15 stop a good 15 minutes' walk away. There is limited parking in front of the grounds of Het Akkertje. By car, it is best to park in the surrounding streets.
