International Ocean Film Tour
Cinema
In April, the International Ocean Film Tour comes to the Netherlands for the 11th time, at Theater Diligentia. This is a film event featuring short documentaries on current topics such as ocean conservation, special adventures and sporting highlights on, in and under water.
The most beautiful ocean documentaries
Every year, the five most beautiful ocean documentaries are screened to share inspiration and knowledge about the ocean and its importance to the planet. What many people do not know is that the ocean is crucial for all life on Earth. The ocean provides about half of the world's oxygen, regulates climate and weather, and also plays an important role in access to potable water. But with all the overfishing, oil spills and plastic pollution, an initiative like the International Ocean Film Tour is much needed.
Educational documentaries are interspersed with light-hearted variants on surfing, freediving and other water sports. The film event offers forward-looking entertainment and provides new ideas and lasting inspiration.
One of the documentaries during the film festival is ‘Nika’. This docu follows biologist Felipe Ravina who builds a special bond with a friend, a dolphin-like creature. You can also go and see the story of freediver Jessea Lu. In ‘’7 Beats Per Minute‘’, she travels to the Vertical Blue Competition in the Bahamas where she tries to defend her world record freediving title.
