Man in wetsuit met een glimlach op het strand

On 19 April, the International Ocean Film Tour will be coming to the Netherlands for the 12th time, at Theater Diligentia. This is a film event featuring short documentaries on topical themes such as ocean conservation, extraordinary adventures and sporting highlights on, in and under the water.

The best ocean documentaries

The International Ocean Film Tour is organised to share inspiration and knowledge about the ocean and its importance to the planet, not in a didactic manner but in a way that inspires and motivates people to protect the oceans. Educational documentaries are interspersed with lighter-hearted films about surfing, freediving and other water sports. The film event offers forward-looking entertainment and provides new ideas and lasting inspiration.

The documentaries

Every year, the five most beautiful ocean documentaries are screened to share inspiration and knowledge about the ocean and its importance to the planet. What many people don’t realise is that the ocean is crucial to all life on Earth. The ocean provides around half of the world’s oxygen, regulates the climate and weather, and also plays a vital role in access to drinking water. But with all the overfishing, oil spills and plastic pollution, an initiative such as the International Ocean Film Tour is sorely needed. The five documentaries to be screened this year at the International Ocean Film Festival are:

  1. Up The Coast
  2. First in, Last Out
  3. The last dive
  4. Home is the Ocean
  5. A different Beast
