On 13 December, the Kloosterkerk will host the Lucia celebration, a beautiful Swedish tradition centred around light, hope and togetherness. During this atmospheric celebration, in the middle of the dark month of December, white clothing and burning candles symbolically bring warmth, purity and light.

Swedish tradition of light and hope

The Lucia tradition has its origins in ancient Scandinavian customs. In Sweden, the festival was celebrated with light rituals to welcome the return of the sun, a moment of hope in the darkest time of the year.

In The Hague, The Swedish Festivity Choir (Svenska Högtidskören) is organising a Lucia concert in the Kloosterkerk. The concert lasts about an hour and features traditional Swedish songs that create an enchanting atmosphere. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 7.30 p.m. Admission is free, and visitors are encouraged to contribute to the evening's charity cause.
