The exhibition Satansbraten by artist Sebastiaan Schlicher is on display at Galerie Maurits van de Laar in The Hague. For this special exhibition, Schlicher has brought together artists he met during his years in Berlin, alongside new contacts from the German capital and Dutch artists who share a similar vision and artistic mindset.

Sebastiaan Schlicher lived and worked in Berlin between 2006 and 2013. His experiences in the city’s vibrant art scene form the basis for this exhibition, in which themes such as identity, urban life and the artistic practice converge.

The title Satansbraten refers to the 1976 film of the same name by the German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The word also means ‘enfant terrible’ or ‘devil’s spawn’: a nickname for artists who choose their own path and manage to hold their own amidst the dynamics of the big city.
