The Gallery in the tram tunnel, at the Spui stop, is the perfect place to discover the wealth of the The Hague Municipal Archives and the history of The Hague. Four times a year, the municipal archives organise an exhibition here on a topic relating to The Hague.

This time, Document voor een Monument takes you on an exploratory tour of the renovation of the Binnenhof: the heart of the democratic constitutional state. A complex of great historical significance, unique in the world and with its own, contemporary dynamism.

Since 2016, the founders of Document voor een Monument – creative director Mizja Haak and photographer Dick Holthuis – have been exploring the past, present and future of this place, with the approval of the Central Government Property Agency and the ‘residents’ of the Binnenhof. The books they have published – ‘The History of the Binnenhof’, ‘The Use of the Binnenhof’ and ‘Dreams in the Twilight of the Ages’ – form part of the municipal archive’s library collection.
