In the musical performance Confessions , the complex relationship between religion and queer (club) culture is explored through confessional stories from members of the gay community. The accompanying music embodies these worlds and pushes their boundaries: from solemn church music to club music, from chamber music to burlesque. Musical performance explores the link between queerness and religion
For many people in the queer community, their identity and way of life are still at odds with the norms they grew up with or that still surround them. For them, the colourful nightlife is often a breath of fresh air, a place full of understanding, community and ecstasy – an almost religious experience that embraces everything God has forbidden. Confessions explores this complex reality through confessional stories and music by, amongst others, the versatile composer Rick van Veldhuizen, electronic sound artist Trevor Grahl, pop icon Kate Bush and the medieval composer Hildegard von Bingen.
In *Confessions*, you’ll hear Rick van Veldhuizen on live electronics, synths and vocals, alongside Andrew Macleod on trombone and Sebastiaan Kemner, winner of the 2021 Dutch Music Prize.
