Thé Tjong-Khing – Fairytale Fashion Show
On Wednesday 21 October 2026, Laaktheater in The Hague presents the Sprookjesmodeshow: a theatre performance for children aged 4 and up, inspired by the work of celebrated illustrator and author Thé Tjong-Khing. The programme is a production by Writers Unlimited and Studio Kleine Lettertjes.
Thé Tjong-Khing draws stories from Bolivia, Japan and the far corners of the world. Ancient fairy tales with characters full of quirks, secrets and uncertain endings. In the Sprookjesmodeshow, those figures get their moment: they step out of the books, dress up and have things to say to their creator. Host Swendeline Ersilia tries to unlock their secrets in an interactive, hilarious show that keeps children and adults alike on their toes.
Workshop after the performance at Laaktheater
After the show, children get to work themselves. In the studio at Laaktheater, they design a new outfit for a fairy-tale character of their choice. The workshop is limited to 40 participants per session, so booking a ticket is required. There are two performances (11:00 and 14:00) and two workshops (around 12:00 and 15:00). When booking, pick a time carefully, as the workshop follows directly from the performance you attend.
Thé Tjong-Khing in The Hague
Thé Tjong-Khing is one of the most beloved children's book illustrators in the Netherlands. His picture books are largely wordless, inviting children to discover the story themselves. In the Sprookjesmodeshow, that visual work gets a theatrical translation: the characters talk, move and respond. The result is a unique blend of literature, theatre and visual art at Laaktheater, suited for children from age 4.
