Golden Stage – The Indo on screen
23 Jul - 31 Dec
Discover Golden Stage – the Indo in Focus, an exhibition featuring seven works by Gert Boeijen and Natalie Boeijen van der Burg exploring Indo identity, history and perceptions.
Golden Stage – the Indo in the spotlight comprises seven artworks by Gert Boeijen and Natalie Boeijen van der Burg. Inspired by iconic works of art, the artists take visitors on a journey through various themes linked to Indo identity. The journey takes visitors from birth and the formation of norms to labour and the colonial economy, then on to memory and community, and concludes with positioning, transmission and survival.
The exhibition takes as its starting point the fact that the ‘Indo’ exists historically and culturally, but has never been recognised as an independent legal category. Building on this premise, the artists explore how Indo identity can be made visible and how visual art can contribute to recognition, dialogue and reflection.
Each work offers a new perspective on a well-known artwork and links it to a specific theme. Together, the seven works form a visual narrative centred on the Indo.
