Ukraine Chamber Opera – Tosca with Francis van Broekhuizen

Francis van Broekhuizen is one of the Netherlands' most distinctive sopranos, and Tosca is a role she knows inside out. Her voice has the warmth and power that Puccini's music demands, but it is her theatrical presence that truly elevates a performance. As the passionate opera singer Tosca grapples with love, jealousy and a moral choice that will change her life forever, Van Broekhuizen conveys that emotional weight with remarkable ease. The famous aria Vissi d'arte, in which Tosca questions why fate has treated her so harshly, promises to be one of the evening's most moving moments.

Ukraine Chamber Opera at Stadstheater Zoetermeer

The Ukraine Chamber Opera deliberately focuses on letting the music and the story take centre stage. No excessive sets or distracting flourishes, just a clear and direct performance that does full justice to Puccini's score. That stripped-back approach works particularly well for Tosca: the drama is already so powerful that it needs no embellishment. As a result, the audience is drawn into this gripping tale of tension, betrayal and sacrifice from the very first to the very last act.
