A mouthful of Palestine - Susanne Khalil Yusef

A mouthful of Palestine / لقمة فلسطين continues Page Not Found’s ongoing commitment to artistic practices that confront colonialism, displacement, cultural erasure and the politics of memory. It is Yusef’s first solo exhibition in The Hague — a city whose reputation rests on the promise of international law. A promise that not everyone experiences equally. The exhibition is presented as part of ‘Monograph’, the multi-year programme of solo exhibitions dedicated to artists whose practice engages with archival and publishing practices, and brings these themes into dialogue with questions of exile, connectedness and intergenerational memory. 

The artist

For Yusef, whose family was driven out of Jaffa during the 1948 Nakba, the gap between the promise of international law and lived reality is not an abstract concept. Her multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculpture, murals, video and ceramics. Yusef’s work explores questions of exile, connectedness and the generational weight of displacement. The artist does so using a visual language that is as vivid and direct as it is politically urgent.
