During the school holidays, Escher in Het Paleis organises a workshop for families every Wednesday afternoon: ‘Create your own tiling pattern’. In the Escher studio, you’ll get to work alongside your child, parent or other family member on tiling patterns – the technique to which M.C. Escher devoted his life.

Create your own tiling pattern at Escher in Het Paleis

Artist M.C. Escher was fascinated by tiling patterns: designs in which shapes repeat endlessly and fit together perfectly. He could spend hours puzzling over them to create the most beautiful designs.

During this creative workshop in the Escher studio, you’ll have a go yourself. Using shapes, lines and a good dose of imagination, you’ll create a unique tiling pattern. The workshop lasts around 45 minutes and is suitable for children and adults. For the very youngest, aged 3 to 6, there’s the option to draw their own picture.

The workshop takes place on Wednesday afternoons during the school holidays and is free for museum visitors.
