Dance and theatre come together in Out of the Stillness, NDT 1's latest full-length production at Amare. The programme pairs a revival of Gabriela Carrizo's The Missing Door with a world premiere by Hofesh Shechter.

The Missing Door (2013) is a work that stays with you. Choreographer Gabriela Carrizo places her dancers in a domestic setting that slowly begins to shift. Everyday actions take on an unsettling quality, and what initially feels familiar tilts into something difficult to name. Carrizo describes it as no man's land – a place where reality and fantasy become entangled and the final moments of a life become visible. The result is a piece that hovers between dream and dread, with dancers making the emotional fractures in their characters physically tangible.

Hofesh Shechter returns to NDT in The Hague

Alongside the Carrizo revival, a brand-new creation takes the stage. Hofesh Shechter, who previously made a strong impression with Clowns (2016), presents his fourth work for NDT 1. The full details are yet to be revealed, but his reputation speaks for itself: Shechter makes dance that surfaces what normally stays hidden. Raw, bold, and marked by a distinct physical language.

An evening with two distinct voices

Out of the Stillness shows the breadth of what NDT 1 is capable of. Carrizo and Shechter approach dance, theatre, and the relationship between body and space in very different ways.
