Film Human Nature is showing at Theater and Filmhuis Dakota in The Hague. The Dutch feature film by director Bart Schrijver follows Sophie on a solo journey of 500 kilometres through the Arctic wilderness of Norway and runs 111 minutes.

Sophie is thirty and has had enough. The pressure of work and study, the constant sense that she has to measure up to her siblings, the relentless noise of everyday life – she wants out. She decides to walk alone through the Arctic region of Norway: 500 kilometres, Lapland, one of the last true wildernesses in Europe. No people, no expectations, just nature.

But letting go of life at home is easier said than done. As Sophie makes her way through the untouched landscape, she finds that distance alone does not bring the peace she was looking for. Human Nature shows how overwhelming and confronting nature can be – and what happens when there is nowhere left to hide.

The film is made by the same team behind The North and is described by its makers as perhaps the most authentic outdoor feature film ever made. Director Bart Schrijver deliberately chose a restrained approach, letting the grandeur of Lapland speak for itself. The result is a 111-minute Dutch film that transports you far from the city.
