Desire
Desire is a musical performance by a string quartet at Grey Space in the Middle in The Hague. Violinist Vivian Giesbertz takes the stage with Marta Florit, Gabriel Torner and Daniel Perales for an evening that weaves together classical music, improvisation and literature into an exploration of desire.
Desire is universal. As simple as hunger or the need for sleep, yet as complicated as the unspoken wishes people carry with them. Violinist Vivian Giesbertz was moved by reading Kazuo Ishiguro's 'The Remains of the Day' and Miranda July's 'All Fours' to ask how desire might sound, and what happens when you express it through music. That question is the heart of Desire.
A string quartet with broad musical range
Giesbertz performs alongside Marta Florit (violin), Gabriel Torner (viola) and Daniel Perales (cello), a string quartet that has been playing together since 2022. The four met during their studies at the Utrecht Conservatory. All are classically trained, but each brings their own interests to the table: minimal music, contemporary composition and free improvisation. That breadth makes the quartet versatile and gives Desire a wide and varied musical palette.
