Discover the world of Piet Mondrian at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Follow his journey from figurative to abstract art and discover the people, ideas and art forms that inspired him.

Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was a pioneer in the renewal of the visual arts. In *Mondrian &...*, you’ll discover his work, his network, and his sources of inspiration. You’ll also see how his ideas continue to resurface in art and design.
The exhibition draws various connections. Discover, among other things, Mondrian & Miffy, Mondrian & design, Mondrian & Marlow Moss, and Mondrian & De Stijl.

Mondrian and the Journey to Abstraction
How does a tree become a composition of lines? The exhibition traces Mondrian’s quest for abstraction and shows how he increasingly distanced himself from visible reality.
His journey takes him from Amsterdam and Domburg, via Paris and London, to New York. Spirituality, music, and dance inspired him in his search for rhythm and a new visual language.
Central to the exhibition is his last and most famous work: *Victory Boogie Woogie* (1942–1944).

Mondrian and the People Around Him
Mondrian drew inspiration from other artists and, in turn, inspired others. An important part of his development was his involvement with De Stijl. This movement sought to innovate art and design.
Through paintings, furniture, models, and scent, you’ll discover the work and ideas of Mondrian and his contemporaries. You’ll see works by Gerrit Rietveld, Theo van Doesburg, and Bart van der Leck, among others.
The exhibition also highlights artists who have long been overlooked, including Jacoba van Heemskerck and Marlow Moss. They had an influence.
